Shbka, or melhafa, are intricatelty hand tie dyed cotton fabrics made the skilled women of Mauritania. The alluring fabrics are traditionally worn by women in the Sahara to shield themselves from the sun. These fabrics have made their way into the south of Morocco where women are adapting to wearing and dying these fabrics as well. We drive our Mushmina car many hours south to the 'bab' or gate of the sahara to hand pick these hard to get fabrics for our Mauritania Gypsy Collection.
These bags feature cotton canvas handles, custom hand embroidered detailing and colored poly-cotton linings with inside pockets.
